Why we have done The Animal Loyalty Survey, 2026
Pets aren’t just pets, they’re part of the family, part of the furniture! At Harry Hall One Club, we wanted to understand just how much our loyal companions shape our lives compared to the people around us.
Thanks to your input, we’ve uncovered some fascinating insights into what really matters when it comes to the animals that we share our lifetime outdoors with. These findings will help us to keep building a community that puts horse and pet owners first.
The Animal Loyalty Survey 2026 Results
Fieldwork: 12–16 December 2025. Data weighted to ONS mid-year estimates where relevant.
43% say it’s easier to maintain a bond with animals than with people
Four in ten (39%) put the same effort into animal and human relationships
This shows how deeply pets are woven into our lives. Animals are increasingly seen as companions who deserve the same attention and care as human connections.
(Effort measure; 39% same, 39% more with people, 18% more with animals). Base: n=1,448 (routed).
Our longest bonds: about 14 years with a person vs about 10 years with an animal
(means: 14.12 vs 9.89). Bases: people n=1,379; animals n=1,347 (routed).
Two thirds (66%) say animals help them deal with daily stress
(positive impact net). Base: n=1,585.
Satisfaction runs higher with animals – 90% satisfied vs 87% for people
People find deep fulfilment in their relationships with animals. For many, the happiness they bring even surpasses that of human relationships.

Animals lift everyday feelings 84% say animals boost happiness and 83% say they improve general mood.
Louise Bielby’s story
Louise Bielby, a Harry Hall One Club member from East Yorkshire, explains the sacrifices she’s made to care for her horse, Rupert.
“Rupert is my world and my family. Looking after him is my number one concern and affording him is my second. I’ve definitely noticed that costs across horse ownership have gone up. Personal things like going to the dentist and other general expenses have been put on hold and I will always cut my own costs and make personal sacrifices first, Rupert will never go without.
