Horse Vet Fees Insurance Terms and Conditions

Please note the following applies to policies taken out after 25 May 2022. We recommend consulting documentation provided at the time of your policy for the most accurate benefits and conditions.

Vet Fees Insurance – Up to £1,500 claim limit

  • Cover is provided for accidental external visible injury only; injury caused by accidental, violent and visible means where your horse has a visible external wound excluding strains of tendons and ligaments.
  • A limit of £1,500 per claim and in the aggregate.
  • Cover is provided for a maximum of two horses, or four horses if you have a Bronze, Gold Family or Platinum membership, which you own or have on full loan.
  • An excess of £165 applies to each and every claim.
  • The policy excludes horses less than 30 days old.
  • It is agreed that the purposes for which Your Horse is kept and for which it is insured are for the following only: Retired, Events organised by or affiliated to The Horse Agility Club, British Eventing, British Dressage, British Showjumping or British Show Horse Association, Companion animals kept at grass, Broodmares, Hacking, Long distance, Horse agility, Gymkhanas, Pleasure rides, Unaffiliated dressage, Showing in-hand and under saddle, Stallions kept for stud duties, Unaffiliated showjumping, Private driving, Western Riding, Hunting, All riding club and pony club activities, Cross-country and Unaffiliated eventing.

  • A limit of £3,000 per claim and in the aggregate.
  • Cover is provided for a maximum of two horses, or four horses if you have a Bronze, Gold Family or Platinum membership, which you own or have on full loan.
  • An excess of £165 applies to each and every claim.
  • The policy excludes horses less than 30 days old.
  • It is agreed that the purposes for which Your Horse is kept and for which it is insured are for the following only: Retired, Events organised by or affiliated to The Horse Agility Club, British Eventing, British Dressage, British Showjumping or British Show Horse Association, Companion animals kept at grass, Broodmares, Hacking, Long distance, Horse agility, Gymkhanas, Pleasure rides, Unaffiliated dressage, Showing in-hand and under saddle, Stallions kept for stud duties, Unaffiliated showjumping, Private driving, Western Riding, Hunting, All riding club and pony club activities, Cross-country and Unaffiliated eventing.
  • Annual policy inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax at 12.00% and a £22.20 administration fee.

Colic Surgery Cover

  • Cover is for colic surgery, and does not cover any bouts of colic that did not result in the horse undergoing surgery under general anaesthetic.
  • A limit of £5,000 per claim and in the aggregate.
  • Costs of after care is included up to a maximum of 50% of the cost of the surgical procedure or for no more than 15 days whichever is the lesser value.
  • Cover is provided for a maximum of two horses which you own or have on full loan, or four horses if you have a Bronze, Gold Family or Platinum membership, as named of the certificate of insurance.
  • An excess of £500 applies to each and every claim.
  • The policy excludes horses aged 15 years or older, at inception or renewal of the policy.
  • Cover is not available for any horses which has suffered from or shown signs of colic in the past.
  • Livery costs (whilst at the equine hospital/boarding costs) are excluded.

Mortality, Theft and Straying Cover

  • In the event that your horse sustains an Accidental External Visible Injury that results in their death or humane destruction, the theft of the horse or it straying; the insurance will pay out a maximum of the lesser of the horse’s market value or £5,000 in the aggregate per policy term.
  • No vetting required.
  • Insured £5,000 limit in the aggregate with £165 excess.

Special exclusions apply to these extensions which can be read in full in the Policy Wording’s below. Horse age restriction of 30 days to 29 years applies.

Disposal Fees

  • Following death of the horse as a result of an accidental external visible injury, the policy will pay the costs of disposal fees and euthanasia charges up to a maximum of £300.

Tack Cover Details

  • Cover is provided for the market value of saddlery and tack that has been lost, stolen or destroyed owned by you up to the value of £1,000.
  • An excess of £200 applies to each and every claim.
  • Saddlery and Tack must be stored in a locked building, and cover for theft shall only apply if visible and violent force was used to enter the locked building.

Cancellations, Amendments and Payments

  • You have 14 days from receiving the policy to write confirming that you do not wish to continue, any premium which has already been paid will be returned in full. After this 14 days you can cancel the policy at any time and a prorata refund will be issued minus a £15 admin charge or the balance of the policy is due, whichever is the lesser amount.
  • Amendments to policies and copies of insurance certificates are chargeable with a small admin fee of £10 per policy/certificate. This includes adding or changing named horses.
  • If payments fail or do not process for any reason, your cover will stop with immediate effect.
  • Policies run for one year from the date of joining. Payments will be taken, monthly or annually depending on the options chosen during sign up and will recur until cancelled.
  • If you have made a claim or you are aware of an incident that may give rise to a claim during the current period of insurance, then you must pay the annual premium in full.
