Richard & Bryn “He’s Just Ace”

We’re delighted to have Harry Hall One Club member Richard and 25-year-old Bryn heading to compete in the Ridden Veteran Championship at Horse of the Year Show 2026.

After 18 years together, Richard and Bryn have built a partnership that has taken them from dressage and showing to hunting, supporting other riders and now an unforgettable HOYS debut.

Just a Scruffy Welsh D

When Richard first bought Bryn, the scruffy, green 15.2hh Welsh Section D wasn’t quite what he had gone looking for. But there was something honest and genuine about the seven-year-old, and it wasn’t long before the pair began building a partnership that would take them far beyond the showing ring.

Richard has done all the work with Bryn himself, competing in dressage, showing and Working Hunter classes, as well as giving others the opportunity to enjoy him. Bryn has carried a para rider representing England, helped a teenager with GCSE PE and Pony Club tests, and even been hunting.

Despite being nervous and green when Richard first bought him, Bryn has grown into a confident character who seems to have a natural instinct for looking after people. He does have his quirks, though.

After every ride, once his tack is removed, Bryn waits patiently for Richard to rub his face, cheeks, mouth and ears. If Richard stops too soon, Bryn simply stands there

Qualifying for HOYs at 25 Years Old

Richard sums Bryn up simply: “He’s just ace.” Qualifying for HOYS at the age of 25 is another incredible chapter in the story of a horse who has already given so much to so many people.

Richard discovered Harry Hall after speaking to the team at a show and was immediately impressed by their passion for the brand and the equestrian community.

“I decided to join after talking to Alex at a show and loved how passionate she was about the Harry Hall One Club. I knew being a member was going to be beneficial for Bryn and me. The insurance was a no-brainer and offered more benefits and cover than my previous policy.”

Having been involved with horses for 35 years, Richard has also grown up with the Harry Hall brand and values its longstanding connection with the equestrian world.

“Harry Hall has been part of my equestrian life for many years. The brand has such a long history and is so well known, so it was something I already trusted and recognised.”

With Harry Hall supporting the Veteran Horse Society at HOYS, qualifying for the championship made the partnership even more special.

“Harry Hall has gone above and beyond in supporting us through our first HOYS. They’ve worked closely with VHS to make sure we had the information we needed, addressed our concerns and made us feel fully supported. It’s our first time at HOYS, so that has meant a lot.”

And after 18 years with Bryn, Richard knows the value of having the right support behind them.

“I would recommend Harry Hall to anyone I know because of their longevity, quality and value for money.”

Wishing you the very best of luck Richard & Bryn  from all of us at Harry Hall HQ
