Michelle & Derek, 15 Years of Memories

We’re proud to have Harry Hall One Club member Michelle and her much loved horse Derek representing the talents of Veteran horses at the 2026 Horse of the Year Show.

After 15 years together and an incredible showing career, their partnership has already created countless memories, with another special HOYS appearance now just around the corner.

He’s Rather Special

Twenty two year old Del Boy V, known as Derek at home, has been a constant in Michelle’s life through some of her most important moments.

Derek came into Michelle’s life all those years ago as something of a surprise purchase. Michelle was looking after him while her other stallion was away being backed and broken, and when his current owner had no room for him, she suggested Michelle take Derek home.

He was only meant to enjoy some hacking and beach rides, but it didn’t take long for Michelle to realise he was something rather special.

Since owning Derek, Michelle has had the most incredible time with him. He has enjoyed a hugely successful showing career, with wins at Windsor, Yorkshire and Lincoln, and in 2019, at just 15 years old, he was crowned HOYS Chaps Champion.

For Michelle, Derek has made so many of her dreams come true, but it isn’t just his success in the ring that makes him so special. He is a wonderful boy, and she says she will be forever grateful to him.

Michelle first discovered Harry Hall One Club at the Veteran Horse Society Champs and was immediately drawn to how straightforward it was to join.

Now, Michelle and Derek are looking forward to returning to Horse of the Year Show for the Ridden Championship, catching up with friends, enjoying the atmosphere and bringing their season to a very special close in the Arena of Dreams.
